What is a Midwife?
Midwives are skilled practitioners, specialists who provide primary care to women during pregnancy, labour and birth; which includes conducting normal vaginal deliveries, and providing care to mothers and babies during the first six weeks postpartum.
We are trained to recognize the abnormal, and refer a woman to another health care professional when situations arise that are outside our scope of practice. We believe in appropriate use of technology and are trained to use emergency measures within the scope of our education and experience.
Your midwife will carefully monitor and guide you, respecting the choices and values for you and your family. Your team of midwives will be spending a lot of time together with you during prenatal visits establishing a trusting relationship.
We will become partners in sharing responsibility and decision-making. We believe the best health care is attained when individuals make informed decisions regarding their care.
